Spring is a magical season for woodland photography and one that I look forward to every single year. After the grip of winter subsides, the forest bursts into new life with wildflowers carpeting the forest floor, and trees budding with fresh, vibrant leaves. It takes some time for the leaves to truly return to the trees in full force, and during this time before the forest canopy closes, vast carpets of wildflowers such as bluebells and wild garlic carpet the forest floors creating picture-perfect landscapes for woodland photography. I’m also fortunate to live very close to one of the most beautiful bluebell woodlands the UK has to offer bar none. Morning mists during spring can be elusive, but that also adds to the allure and magic when they do occur and create ideal conditions for some truly ethereal scenes.
